On the stove, heat a deep pan or pot that has a fitting lid. Add enough oil to cover the base. Add popcorn to cover the bottom of the pan or pot with single layer. Avoid adding too much popcorn to the point where kernels start laying on top of each other.
Place the lid on the pan or pot, wait for the popping sounds to start and the pot to fill with popcorn.
Remove from the heat before lifting the lid. Throw popped kernels in a bowl, taking care to keep the unpopped kernels in the pot. Return to the heat; place the lid back on the pot and pop remainder of popcorn.
Variation:
You can pop stovetop popcorn like Pride popcorn, using a microwave popper. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when cooking.
